This book can be read as a stand alone, but if you should really read The Awakening and Runaway first so you will have a full picture of how and why Andy and Laura are together. This book gave me hope for my future and reaffirmed many of the ups and downs and emotions that I have been feeling. One thing to keep in mind apparently is that different books teach the Z tables differently. I intentionally avoided reviews of this novel before I purchased it. The heroine has a past that makes it difficult for her to let love in and with good reason. However, I was hoping for a few more from the 40s an 50s. Above the street-level storefronts were offices of African American business and professional men: dentists, doctors, undertakers, photographers, teachers, realtors, and insurance brokers. It is interesting to see him leave home, fall in love and generally make a way for himself in the world. The author strives to help people dealing with cancer find their way through. Boy did I hate him at first.
